Speed is a shape (why React is slow)
Cloudflare NYC HQ, 1 World Trade Center, 88th floor, New York, NY, USIf we take a step back from flame charts and performance profiles to ask "what does React need to do?" we can see that it's not one particular thing that makes your React app slow, it's slow due to React's design.
In this talk, we'll walk through the major pieces of how React works, discover that some aren't necessary (if we change its shape a bit), and walk through a frontend framework that takes a different form: one that's smaller, simpler, and shaped for speed.
Sufian Rhazi loves a good problem. He's a Principal Engineer at Cloudflare, building RUM and synthetic monitoring tools. For over two decades, he's built a career seeking out and working on a variety of programming problems. And every one of them ends up being the same: how to stop making things so complicated. When he's not solving problems, he's creating them at home for his poor wife and fur baby.
