Join us for an evening of modern C++ learning and networking! This month, we’ll be watching the highly anticipated CppCon 2025 talk by the creator of C++ himself, Bjarne Stroustrup. Attendees will be able to ask brief questions during the talk and longer ones in the discussion after.
The Talk: Concept-based Generic Programming
In this talk, Bjarne dives into the evolution and power of Generic Programming in C++. He explores how Concepts allow us to write code that is general, efficient, and flexible without the "bloat" often associated with abstraction.
Key topics include:
- Preventing Errors: Using concepts to handle implicit narrowing and range errors (e.g., `spannable` and `number` types).
- Modern Techniques: How to make generic code as simple to write as non-generic code.
- The Future: A look ahead at Static Reflection (expected in C++26) and how it enables generating descriptors for class members.
- Design Philosophy: Why Generic Programming and Object-Oriented Programming are complementary, not mutually exclusive.
Whether you are new to Concepts or looking to deepen your understanding of C++ design principles, this is a great opportunity to learn from the language's author.
Agenda:
- 6:30 PM: Doors Open & Networking
