What we’re about
Sunday Assembly Portland is a 501c3 non-profit secular community. We celebrate life.
Our motto: Live Better, Help Often, and Wonder More
We are the Portland Chapter of the international movement called Sunday Assembly. We provide a non-religious alternative where people can come together at monthly assemblies to sing uplifting songs, share inspiring stories, and hear engaging lectures. Between assemblies we have small groups that focus on a wide range of interests as well as volunteer projects in the Portland area. We strive to be radically inclusive, family-friendly, and create a supportive community as we take full advantage of this one life we know we have.
Sunday Assembly Portland is free and everyone is welcome!

Humanists of Greater Portland (HGP) Presents...
Gambling on the Climate
Live music by the singing group the Spring Chickens, accompanied by Pete and Paul Barkett at Friendly House begins at 9:30.From 10:00 to 11:45, there will be a presentation by Stand-Up Comedian and Economist Yoram Bauman. Bets have often been used to settle academic disputes and influence public opinion. This talk focuses on three climate bets he's involved in: Are global temperatures peaking? Are global emissions peaking? And is bipartisan, pocketbook-friendly, small-government climate action even remotely possible?
Yoram Bauman makes a living as “the world’s first and only stand-up economist”, but he is also a PhD environmental economist and a leader of Clean The Darn Air, a grassroots effort to put a clean-air-and-climate measure on the ballot in Utah. Before moving to Salt Lake City in 2017, he spent 20 years in Seattle and co-chaired the Initiative 732 effort, which put the first-ever carbon tax measure on a statewide ballot in the United States. Yoram is the co-author of the Cartoon Introduction to Climate Change, the Cartoon Introduction to Calculus, and the two-volume Cartoon Introduction to Economics. He has a BA in mathematics from Reed College and a PhD in economics from the University of Washington. His goals in life are to spread joy to the world through economics comedy; to reform economics education; and to
implement carbon pricing.Check out his site for more information about his stand-up and environmental efforts: https://standupeconomist.com/
