What we’re about

We are a meeting place for everyone who deeply cares about software development.
We are a group of professionals who want to share their knowledge and learn from each other. We care about the software we create, and we practice our craft.

Software Crafters Berlin aka Softwerkskammer Berlin (since we started out as part of the German-speaking https://softwerkskammer.org) is part of https://www.softwarecrafters.org, a worldwide network of other local Software Craft Communities.

Our movement, as Craftspeople, is inspired by the “Manifesto for Software Craftsmanship” that focuses on software development as artisanship:

“As aspiring Software Crafters we are raising the bar of professional software development by practicing it and helping others learn the craft. Through this work we have come to value:

  •  Not only working software, but also well-crafted software
  •  Not only responding to change, but also steadily adding value
  •  Not only individuals and interactions, but also a community of professionals
  •  Not only customer collaboration, but also productive partnerships

That is, in pursuit of the items on the left we have found the items on the right to be indispensable”

Our principles as Craftspeople are:

  • Sharing
  • Caring
  • Learning
  • Practicing

We changed our name from “Software Craftsmanship Berlin” to “Software Crafters Berlin” as we highly value the diversity of our community and want to ensure that people feel included, whether they identify with the term “craftsmanship” or not.
