Open Source Edinburgh // June 2022

Details
We are delighted to be returning to Edinburgh for our first in-person Open Source meetup in the city since before the pandemic! We have two fantastic speakers lined up for you:
• Reg Wilkinson, Z DevOps Centre of Excellence Lead at Lloyds Banking Group
• Adam Mcmurchie, Lead Data, DevOps & Cloud Engineer, NatWest Group
***
AGENDA
18:00 // Food, drinks and networking
18:30 // Welcome and introduction // Colin Eberhardt, CTO, Scott Logic
18:40 // 'Do not cancel the mainframe! How Lloyds Banking Group is creating the ultimate hybrid cloud in coordination with IBM and Red Hat OpenShift' // Reg Wilkinson
Banks are challenged with creating innovative customer user journeys where leveraging cloud native solutions provides efficiency and cost-saving advantages. However, meeting complex UK regulations in a competitive retail banking environment still drives banking back-end solutions onto the mainframe. Don't despair. The Z platform is here to help!
19:15 // Break
19:45 // 'Open Source as a Culture – Part 2' // Adam Mcmurchie
Building on his previous Open Source meetup talk, Adam will take us on an Open Source Archaeology adventure by exploring hidden gems and quality projects that are long forgotten but still open and available for all.
He will then shift gears to cover the current state of Open Source; what’s working and what areas are ripe for disruption. Finally, Adam will discuss methods and tools for combatting Tech Elitism and share resources to help people break into Tech.
20:30 // Event close/networking drinks
