What we’re about
This support group is for people who have been bankrupted or who have entered into the No Asset Procedure or summary instalment procedure and including people who are considering those options as a way to end financial suffering.
As a bankrupt myself I know first hand the trauma that comes with being forced into a formal insolvency procedure.
New Zealand does not offer support of any kind beyond basic budgeting, to help people who have become insolvent. Through my bankruptcy I have learned that we also have limited legal and privacy rights. I have also learned that people commit suicide because of becoming bankrupted.
I hope this support group will help end the suffering and trauma that bankruptcy and financial hardship causes. And give people hope that our lives going forward will be worth living again.
This group is also to help me understand how widespread bankruptcy and financial hardship trauma is and to know which laws need to change.
I know bankruptcy is a very personal situation, and meetings will be held in the strictest of confidence. Our collective knowledge will help end the suffering of the NZ people so we can look forward to a better future.
This group is currently listed as public, but if its preventing you from joining because of the stigma around bankruptcy and financial hardship, please email me directly and if there is enough interest I can see about making the group private. Email - lisa@debtfreeforlife.co.nz
Also we would love to hear your stories. We are currently putting together information which will be helpful to members of our parliament so they can better understand what is working or not about the current bankruptcy regimes in NZ.
