About us

Organized by Regina Walton, other amazing volunteers, and founded in 2006, SFTech4Good has a history as a monthly meetup in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Now, we host virtual and in-person events (on an irregular schedule), send a monthly newsletter, and closely partner with LA Tech4Good and their data equity focus.

Join our newsletter here on Substack for mailings with tons of resources, jobs, community events, and more! As this is a large group, one-off announcements are limited to the occasional paid sponsor messages that help cover costs.

IMPORTANT: This is a community of individuals. Please join with your real name, a picture of yourself, and answer the questions. No handles and no orgs, with the exception of our sponsors and partners. Thank you for your understanding.

Since 2006, SFTech4Good has gathered to explore how tech and people in tech can use their skills for social impact - and how social good organizations can more effectively use tech. Participants, attendees, and speakers come from a variety of organization types and diverse disciplinary backgrounds, including social entrepreneurs, large organizations, B corps, nonprofits, angel investors, institutional funders, company founders, computer programmers, technologists, marketers, designers, writers, media makers, and more.

Our backstory: Initially called SFNetSquared, SFTech4Good was the first of a global network of grassroots-organized communities sponsored called NetSquared by TechSoup across North America, South America, Asia, Australia, and Africa, all exploring social tech tools for social impact. In 2013, SFNetsquared merged with the local 501 Tech Club which was sponsored by NTEN. We renamed the group "SFTech4Good" and had two great non-profit organizations as sponsors.

Our partnerships with both groups have ended, but please check out their good work!

Plug In to the Sun: Balcony Solar E-Discuss Meetup and Potluck/BYO Lunch

9Zero Climate Innovation Hub & Coworking, 350 California St 4th floor, San Francisco, CA, US

What if everyone could get the benefits of affordable solar energy?

Bright Saver is a nonprofit whose mission is to build a movement where plug-in solar is affordable and accessible to all, so people can take control of their energy, one outlet at a time.

As this Canary Media article notes, balcony solar is popular in Europe, especially in Germany, where residents installed 200MW of balcony solar during the first half of 2024.

Come hear from Cora Stryker, a co-founder of Bright Saver, at this potluck/BYO lunch E-Discuss meetup.

This event will not be recorded, but if you can’t make it, you check out past Bright Saver webinars here: https://www.brightsaver.org/events-and-webinars

About the speaker:
Cora is a serial founder and leader of social mission-driven organizations. She thrives on building win-win strategic partnerships to drive measurable impact, investing in growth strategies, and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive organizational culture.

About E-Discuss:
E-Discuss is an informal potluck meetup of folks in sustainability with presentations on various topics. It started in dorm rooms at Stanford circa 2006 and has grown to a community of clean energy enthusiasts around the Bay. Usually events are weekday evenings; we are experimenting with a daytime event this month!

About 9Zero: We are a community of founders, investors, engineers, scientists, and innovators who together, drive climate action. Through our club, events, meetups, and connections, we spark collaboration and accelerate solutions. If you’re working toward a healthier, more resilient world, you belong here. Join us - 9Zero.com
