Welcome to the "PGH Cheers & Chess" social chess club on Meetup.com! We are a new diverse group of chess enthusiasts who come together to play, socialize, and make new friends. Whether you're a seasoned player, just learning the game, or don't know the first thing; you are welcome to join us. Our goal is to bring a low-stakes, fun, and inviting environment to anyone who enjoys or wants to learn the game of chess! Our group is open to anyone who wants to connect with others in the community. Respect and inclusion are mandatory! Come meet new friends, enjoy a fun game of chess, and have a great time!
Events are free and we have 12 boards for anyone to use. (If you have a board, we ask you to bring it with you!)
Please don't be discouraged if you see low RSVP numbers. Anyone who has attended will attest that this is a very free form group and no RSVP is needed (so our regulars don't even bother RSVPing anymore :D ). We average over 50 people each week with skills ranging from "what does that piece do" to "I think that's checkmate?" to "Hey, does Andy play professionally?"

Aslin & Cinderlands have non-alcholic options and food, as well as their normal brewery fare!
About the organizer: Hi everyone! My name is Josh Clark and I'm 35 years old. I just moved to Pittsburgh in November (2024) and I wanted to develop a space to meet new people and share the game I love with others! I've been playing chess since I was 8 or 9, and love teaching others how to play. I hope you come try it out!
