What we’re about
We talk about building applications using Python. Anything from startup prototypes to advanced data analysis with Numpy and Scipy. Python is a great choice due to the vast support community and ease of development.
The Northern Virginia Python Users Group gets together on the third Thursday of the month at the Science Logic location just off the Dulles Toll Road. We talk about beginning topics as well as more advanced applications of the language.

Hello talented programmers. This is an advanced topic, for experienced coders. We are looking to form a working group of C programmers to contribute to Python's #1 image library Pillow.
Pillow has almost 100M downloads per month - https://pypistats.org/packages/pillow
We will be joined by Alex, the Pillow project maintainer who will guide our group through the requirements of a major data type refactoring. The issue being tracked is this one:
https://github.com/python-pillow/Pillow/issues/1888The Issue is about adding support for larger data format images like TIFF that need float64 and multi-channel support to work with the geographic (GIS) industries, as well as visual-effects industries.
At this kick off meeting, we will have an introduction to the data use-cases of these file format types. We will go through a basic primer on image data types, and layout key objectives for our working group. Then, the weekend after this event, we'll begin our refactoring working group/hackathon (virtual).
I hope you can make it to this amazing event, and have a chance to contribute to a major Python package!
If you are joining virtually, please meet us online at https://meet.jit.si/mocomakers
We are meeting at the RSC makerspace location - located at 33F Maryland Ave, Rockville MD - this is down the street from the Rockville Science Center Storefront location and is on the same side of the street as Rockville Library and Buffalo Wild Wings.
