Welcome to our first class in...well...quite some time
Too long, I'd say.
Here's my idea for this class.
How inexpensively can we grow mushrooms without compromising yields and ease of growing?
I try not to, but occasionally I will drift over to YouTube and watch a video or two about growing mushrooms successfully. I'd say that most of these videos are intimidating, especially to someone that's just starting out. Many are outright wrong. Really wrong. Taking the first step in growing mushrooms can indeed be somewhat intimidating. Being terrified at some level is not what you need. The process should always be exciting and fun, though there will inevitably be some moments of doubt.
That's why you're taking this class. I was one of Paul Stamet's students and have been growing and culturing mushrooms for decades.
Remember the feeling of excitement, and insecurity when you took your first kiss? Growing mushrooms is not really like that level of excitement and insecurity, but there are nuances of those feelings. Do something new and fun!
The truth is that I've been teaching this class and running this group for many years now. If I don't have something novel to teach, or a personal challenge to achieve in the class, then I tend to get in a rut. This series should be good for both of us. I'll get to take on the challenge of a low cost, low tech growing method without the hassle of using still air boxes, HEPA filters....etc.
Don't know what those items are?
Good!
We're not going to use them.
This series of classes will take you from mixing your media, pouring your plates, all the way to growing your mushrooms at home. This is not a dry, academic class, this is a hands on class. Everything you need is supplied!
This should take three classes to complete. At the end of the series, you'll take your mushroom block home to fruit, and know what you'll need to do at home to keep your mushrooms happy and growing.
The cost will be $30 per class, and again, everything you will be supplied.
Oh, if you have a microwave at home, you may want to bring that to the class. If not, then don't worry about it.
We'll decide what mushroom we are going to grow when we meet for our first class.
This class is for any level of grower, from total novice to someone fairly proficient at growing.
Oh, and one last thing.....
While we won't be using a HEPA filter for this class, I do have a near mint 2ft x 4ft HEPA unit with a good filter, and variable air speed control for sale. If you're interested, just message me.
Hope to see you at the class!
