# Celebrating the Spirit of the Mohawk Canoe Club
As August arrives, one of my favorite Mohawk traditions is just around the corner—our Annual Mohawk Canoe Club Picnic. Sometimes the best club events aren't the biggest adventures on the water, but the opportunities to slow down, catch up with old friends, welcome new members, and simply enjoy spending time together.
This year's picnic will once again be held at Pakim Pond on Saturday, August 8 at 12 pm. After the success of last year's gathering, we're returning to the same beautiful location. The pavilion offers plenty of shade, easy parking, nearby hiking trails, and, of course, opportunities to get out on the water for those who would like to paddle before or after lunch.
A special thank you goes to Joe and Judy Logan, who have once again graciously agreed to coordinate the picnic. The club will provide the traditional picnic favorites -- hot dogs, hamburgers, turkey burgers, and baked beans. As always, we invite everyone attending to bring a favorite side dish, salad, dessert, or beverage to share. The variety of homemade dishes has become one of the highlights of this annual event.
More than anything, our picnic is about community. Whether you've been a Mohawk member for decades or joined us this season, I hope you'll consider spending a few hours with your fellow paddlers. It is one of the few times each year when we can gather without worrying about shuttle logistics, river levels, or the next rapid. Instead, we have the chance to relax, exchange stories from the season, meet new friends, and celebrate the camaraderie that has always made Mohawk Canoe Club special.
As we move through the heart of paddling season, I also want to thank everyone who has led trips, cleared rivers, welcomed new members, and volunteered their time to keep our club active and thriving. Organizations like ours depend on members who are willing to step forward, and I am continually grateful for the generosity and enthusiasm that define this club.
I hope to see many of you at Pakhim Pond. Bring your appetite, your favorite side dish or desert to share, a comfortable chair if you'd like, and, of course, your Mohawk spirit. Here's to another wonderful day together – and to many more miles on the water before the season is over.

Thanks,
Erin
