Learning as activism: how to do it

Details

In 2023, is developing yourself a form of activism?

If we don't take the risk, we will find ourselves stuck in a level of mind inadequate to the demands of the times.” - Dancing at the Edge

75% of adult Brits are worried about climate change, but nowhere near this many people join protests. More and more of us want to take action, but many do not identify as traditional activists. What else can we be doing?

We want to make the case that learning can be activism. Through this event we’ll explore how you can put activism into practice through how you choose to learn.

We believe that:

  • What you choose to learn, and how you choose to learn it, can contribute to the change you want to see in the world.
  • The power of learning to fuel change is hugely understated and overlooked at a time when it has never been needed more.
  • When ‘learner’ is part of your identity it can open you to new perspectives and new ways of living, working and being. In other words, it can help you prepare to evolve and change.

AKA, curious learners create a fertile soil from which change can grow!

This event will explore the what and how of learning as activism, via the different perspectives of the speakers. Each speaker will share reflections from their context, plus 3 ways to make this real in your life this year. We invite you to listen to the discussion, reflect, then pick n mix from the speaker’s offerings, to create a recipe for how to put this into practice.

If ‘curious learner’ describes you, this event will be for you. You might be; wondering how to develop an activist practice that works for you; looking for new ways of learning that don’t perpetuate old ways of thinking; an activist curious to explore other modes of action.
