Our speaker, Wesley Chun, GDE, author of Prentice Hall's bestselling "Core Python" (corepython.com) series, is coming to share his extensive experiences on the topic.

What is Google Apps Script... another Google secret? Developers new to it sometimes think so because they've likely never heard of it before, yet it's been around since 2009(!). The real magic happens when they discover how useful it is to connect with apps like Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides, providing a platform to automate tasks or extend their functionality. Besides Workspace, you can connect to other Google services like YouTube or Google Maps, and in generally, any online services or databases.

This session provides a high-level overview of Google Apps Script, some background, a gentle but technical introduction, various use cases (including add-ons), and walk though lots of code to give you an idea of the variety of things you can accomplish with it. Apps Script is based on JavaScript, so you don't have to learn something new, and it's "serverless," meaning Google hosts & runs your code (for free). While this session doesn't have a hands-on component, you will leave this session able to get started with it immediately.
