What we’re about
Dream of being a daring adventurer in kick-ass magical realms? Wish you were an actual elf wizard or a brawny but soft-hearted half-orc? Then come play the world's greatest role-playing game - Dungeons and Dragons! (and other RPGs)
We run weekly events in Atlanta several nights a week. We try to make our games as inclusive as possible; our goal is to lower the barrier for entry for new folks to get involved in the hobby. New players don't need to bring anything--we provide free dice and character sheets for all first-timers, and all skill levels are welcome!
How it works:
When you show up, you'll hear pitches for our regular low-commitment, beginner-friendly one-shot games. You'll pick the game that sounds most interesting to you, your DM and our volunteers can help you with the rules, and you'll start playing right away.
If you enjoy the event and want to come back, you can join one of the ongoing campaigns in our community.
For Dungeon Masters:
Anyone that wants to pitch and run a one-shot can just show up any night by 7:00PM to run it (6 to 7 is unofficial "DM Happy Hour"). You don't have to schedule with us or do anything in advance.
What You Need to Bring:
You don't need to bring anything to play--we provide dice, character sheets, and helpful advice for all new players!
Players, if you want to bring a homemade character sheet, the assumptions for D&D 5e are 3rd level, Standard Array or Point Buy, and average HP. Any WotC content, but no UA or Homebrew. If you see a GM prepitch a different RPG in our Discord, feel free to ask them if you can bring a homemade character if they did not specify it.
GMs, if you are interested in running a game, we provide players with dice, pencils, and D&D 5e pregens as specified above. You will need to bring whatever you usually use to run a session--e.g., books, maps, minis, etc. If you're running a system other than 5e, you'll need to provide character sheets (and rules instructions) for your players. Feel free to prepitch or otherwise gauge interest in our Discord's event channels.
So, if you want to meet new people, learn the rules of D&D, or just play some games and have some drinks, come out and join us every week!
Everyone should feel free to join our Discord community as well!
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- D&D at The Independent: Adventure in Midtowns and Highlands! The Independent, Atlanta, GA
Hail and well met, adventurers - the call has gone out, and in-person events will commence once more!
Please note that Joystick is a 21+ venue after 8:00 PM. The Independent is always 21+.
Both new and inexperienced players are welcome! We'll teach you the rules, and give a free pre-generated character and set of dice to all first-time players.
DMs of all skill levels, using any system or setting, are always welcome.
Also, we are offering a DM Token system! Players request a DM Token upon purchase, which they can give to DMs to turn into gift cards! Please check in with us about the current ratios being offered. Note that these tokens will not be usable at other event locations. How It Works:
- We use a digital signup where GMs (including Flex!) post their pre-pitch specs (including min-max table size), and players can sign up--either for specific games, or in general, including Waitlisting--to help with event/table management. An Admin or an Admin helper can help with signups on-site for in-person/walk-in signups.
- DM Happy Hour starts at 6:00 PM - meet your fellows, discuss your plans, and prepare devious plots against your unsuspecting players.
- At 7:00 PM, the official meetup starts! By 7:15pm, DMs gather their players and the games begin. Games typically run from 7:30 PM to 10:00/11:00 PM.
