March Meetup: Edward Dalley introducing Jungle
Details
Hi all,
After a summer hiatus, we're back for the first meetup of the year, featuring Edward Dalley, introducing his design tool "Jungle".
From Edward:
"Jungle is a tool for building generators and managing flows of generated information, it is built on the principle that the structure of the process should be the same as the structure of the data produced by it, that is hierarchical, unlike usual top to bottom, or callback speghetti.
This makes it easy to swap out components from literal data to dynamic process in a snap.
The current framework, built in Typescript runs on HTML5 and examples of its use with WebAudio and Three.js will be presented.
It is a young technology, based upon a vision for a new way of producing and processing data called organic programming. I will be seeking criticism, potential users and contributors to push the project forward. "
In addition to Edward, Tyler Harlen will be presenting his ongoing generative architecture project undertaken as part of his masters course:
"In fourth year Architecture Design Studio, students were asked; how can simple rules applied over time result in emergent, complex geometric networks?
The project explores how architecture is able to evaluate and respond to its environment based on both local and system-wide stimuli through the idea of swarm tectonics.
Development of this idea was done in Rhino and Grasshopper using a plugin called anemone to produce emergent and complex geometric networks."
Sounds like a great project to start the year with, and I'm looking foward to seeing everyone again, and some great discussion.
As always, if anyone is interested in presenting a piece of work or cool procedural toy, get in contact with me as we're actively looking for presenters at any skill level/area of expertise.
Looking forward to seeing you all there (and for beers afterwards),
Chris, Tom and Tane
