Today's theme: RESISTANCE!
Co-hosted by Guillermo Garcia and David Inga.
http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/a/2/3/c/event_204881532.jpeg When peaceful students are blinded with pepper spray and ridiculed by mainstream media... When violent protesters are burned alive by the police... When freedom fighters are tortured and executed as terrorists... When mega-scale corporate crime roams free and unpunished... When working and unemployed people are crumbling down under the weight of poverty, in the face of unabashed exhibitions of wealth... When activists and dissidents must choose between life in jail, murder or suicide... When protest is systematically crushed, repressed, belittled and ignored by society--how do we still organize resistance today and claim a better world? Old and new methods of resistance against corporate power, today more than ever, are being activated all over the world. From anarchist movements to left fronts, we will examine various forms and objectives of contemporary dissent.

Give a talk! Anyone at the Left Bank is welcome to submit a proposal for a 10-minute presentation analyzing forms of resistance around the world. You do not need to be an expert, a teacher or a published writer - just an informed citizen of the Earth who would like to provide insights into protest, revolt and revolution.
Rules of the game:
-
Email a title and short summary to Helene at hdomon@fullerton.edu at least a few days before the workshop date;
-
Focus your topic on one form of resistance you would like to emphasize;
-
Your presentation is 10 minutes max, followed by an informal group discussion;
-
A PowerPoint is welcome, but not mandatory; lectures, round tables and other forms of expression (videos, poetry, slam, songs, art, performance, activities) are welcome.
Cheers, come on, don't hesitate! Share your knowledge and hopes! Be part of the people's university where we learn and grow from each other and build tomorrow's world!
Cost: The workshop is FREE. Dinner at Thai Basil is optional and costs about $8-15 per person (dinner special for $12.95 includes soup, appetizer, main course, dessert and wine).
