Sierra Club is a national organization dedicated to explore, enjoy and protect the planet. This group is for anyone looking for outdoor activities, environmental programs and education and ways to make our community greener! Virtually all are FREE and open to everyone - you do not need to be a Sierra Club member to participate.
The Sierra Club groups of the Greater Tampa Bay Florida area includes the Suncoast Sierra Club group (serving Pinellas and Western Pasco & Western Hernando Counties) and the Tampa Bay Sierra Club (serving Hillsborough and Eastern Pasco & Eastern Hernando Counties) as well as our Tampa Bay ICO, Inspiring Connections Outdoors via Youth Outings for Pinellas and Hillsborough. With several thousand members, our local groups organize and participates in outdoor adventures, environmental education and public awareness, youth outings, environmental activism and lobbying of our local and state government for pro-environmental legislation.

The Weeki Wachee River is an invaluable feature in Hernando County, driving tourism, employment, and renowned for its waterways as a prime recreational destination in addition to being a first magnitude Outstanding Florida Waters Spring.
Springs lovers, Weeki Wachee businesses, local residents, waterfront homeowners, visitors and those interested or concerned about springs protection, water quality and the local environment are all cordially invited to the Weeki Wachee River Summit on Friday, May 3rd, 2024, from 9am—1:30pm at Pasco Hernando State College-- Spring Hill Campus, 450 Beverly Court, Spring Hill, Fl.
We’ll discuss present and future conditions of the Weeki Wachee and learn about watershed initiatives being implemented. Conservation leaders and Hernando County and state agency representatives will discuss the mosaic of watershed initiatives currently underway as well as those planned to protect, maintain, and restore the Weeki Wachee River.
The summit is being hosted by a consortium of Hernando County conservation organizations including Sierra Club Adventure Coast Group, Hernando Audubon Society; Florida Native Plant Society--Hernando Chapter; and the Weeki Wachee River Rescue Team. Hernando County staff, Southwest Florida Water Management District scientists and other agency representatives who will provide updates on initiatives to reduce nutrient loading and improve habitat within the Weeki Wachee watershed.
Sharing this important work with the public and residents of Hernando County is intended to garner support, showcase solutions, and ultimately, achieve our goal to bring the river back to a sustainable condition.

Join us for a fun paddle that will make you feel like you made a difference in the health of the Hillsborough River. Each year, in connection with the celebration of Earth Day, we paddle on and clean up a section of the Hillsborough River--Tampa's primary source of drinking water.
Meet at the Lowry Park Boat Ramp and be ready to launch at 10 AM.
We will paddle from Lowry Park Boat Ramp upstream to the Sulphur Springs area and we expect to see wildlife on this part of the trip.
On the return trip downstream, we will pick up trash floating in the river or deposited along the banks of the river. You will be amazed at the amount of trash that we collect and it will make you feel good about going on this trip.

Cost: Free
Bring: 2 liters of water, sunscreen, your own kayak or canoe, sunglasses, a hat, a snack, gloves, trash bags and a life jacket. Sierra Club rules require that participants wear their life jacket at all times while paddling on the river.Cancellation Policy: Heavy rain cancels

Come enjoy the BIRDS of Ft DeSoto, register here. We are going to spend the day at Ft DeSoto Park area looking for spring migrants, Warblers, Vireos, Thrushes, Hummingbirds, and who knows what? Ft DeSoto is one of the prime migratory locations on the Gulf of Mexico and almost always has a surprise or two.
Please dress in layers, cool in the morning and near water and later in the day sunny and warmer.
Water, hat, lunch, snacks, poncho or raincoat, Bird Book, binocular or spotting scope, camera.

Imagine a tranquil oasis with several Florida native butterflies fluttering, caterpillars munching and the chance to see a butterfly emerge from its chrysalis. Butterfly Tampa visitors will learn how these pollinators truly teach us about the health of our environment in an enchanted, living rainforest in our South Tampa education exhibit.
After visiting the exhibits, you will be free to roam the nursery and, if you wish, buy butterfly and pollinator plants. Little Red Wagon donates proceeds from the nursery sales to the Tampa Bay Butterfly Foundation's mission for conservation, education and research for butterflies and native plants in our area.
