What we’re about

TALK ABOUT DEATH TODAY -- LIVE A RICHER LIFE TOMORROW!

At Death Cafe we bring death out of the closet...we talk about it...we get real.
It's not always easy, but the payoff can be life-changing. We work to get over our fears and accept that death is inevitable. As Jon Underwood, the founder of Death Cafe, stated, "...the objective of Death Cafe is to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives."

Accepting this reality enables us and our loved ones to live more fully; and, we often talk about how to do just that: make a bucket list, find your passion, escape from boredom, stretch your limits...LIVE BOLDLY! Remember, life is short and none of us get out alive.

People like us, all over the world, have decided that Death Cafe is a good way to start changing the way we think about death, and about LIFE. The first meetings were held in Paris and London about seven years ago, and since then, tens of thousands of people have attended nearly 5000 Death Cafes in more than 50 countries. Our international website is found at www.deathcafe.com.

In the Sacramento area our group includes people of all ages (18 and over) and people from all walks of life. We listen and respect others' thoughts and feelings about death, dying, and grief. You're welcome to just come and listen, if you'd like. We know that living in a "death phobic" society makes it difficult to discuss this topic, that is, until you begin to understand that it's okay to do so. We don't attempt to lead people to any conclusion, product, or course of action, and all conversations are confidential.
Our gatherings are held in comfortable surroundings, and alongside refreshing drinks and nourishing food – and ALWAYS cake!
We certainly hope you'll join us!
