What we’re about
SEVAS, the Southeast Volusia Audubon Society, is one of three Audubon groups in Volusia County, FL. We are an active, inclusive Audubon Chapter and we welcome all. Our monthly meetings are held Oct - Apr at the Marine Discovery Center in New Smyrna Beach but our birding trips take us all over the county and beyond.
Want to learn more about native plants? We have demonstration gardens to visit and tend. Also, come view our Purple Martin colony at the Marine Discovery Center!
If you see us at the NSB Farmer's Market, please say hello! Click these links to find out more about our events, programs and volunteer opportunities:

This is mostly a driving tour. This is a perfect bird trip for anyone with mobility issues. This is an easy trip as we drive the Black Point Drive with some easy trail walking.
Merritt Island is a good place to see waders, shore birds, song birds and raptors. At noon we usually stop at Visitor Center for picnic lunch. Free and open to the public. Leader is Chip Francke. Bring water, optics, bug spray, sun screen, snacks, and a bag lunch.
Meet for car-pooling at 715AM at the Dunkin' parking lot, 1812 S Ridgeway Ave, Edgewater. NOTE: there is a fee if you do not have a NWR permit- see more here:

ALL are welcome! Join us for a lovely afternoon out. We’ll bird the boardwalk and dunes, then wind back along the shore, and tally our list. Smyrna Dunes offers pristine coastal dunes and panoramic views of Ponce Inlet and lighthouse, the estuary, and the ocean. We should get good looks at gulls, terns and shorebirds. Passerines are possible in the hammocks, and we may see gopher tortoises along the boardwalk.
Up to twenty species of shorebirds are possible, including American Oystercatchers, Piping and Wilson’s Plovers, Purple Sandpipers and Red Knots. Brown and American White Pelicans, Black Skimmers, Common Loons, cormorants and numerous species of gulls and terns are found here. Bait fish activity at the inlet’s mouth attracts sea birds, especially Northern Gannets.
>>nb: There is a Volusia County park entrance fee or pass required (unless you are on a bike). You can also purchase permits in person at one of the offices, such as the New Smyrna Beach office open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 302 N. Causeway, NSB
