What we’re about
OpenOakland is an all-volunteer collective founded in 2012 that bridges community and technology for a thriving and equitable Oakland. We bring technologists, designers, data geeks, advocates, residents, researchers, policy makers, thinkers, and doers together to build community-centered technology that empowers Oaklanders to shape the city we want to live in.
For nearly a decade, our digital tools have given Oaklanders a voice in their local government, from mapping community resources to publishing the city budget publicly for the first time ever.

OpenOakland - Civic Tech for the Community
City Hall, Hearing Room 3, 1 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, Oakland , ca, USJoin us for the OpenOakland meetup. This event will bring together professionals, enthusiasts, and experts passionate about utilizing data to drive positive change in Oakland.
This month we will introduce a new project:
OpenOakland is teaming up with EVOAK! to design a community asset mapping interface that supports equitable, data-informed development in East and West Oakland. Building on EVOAK!’s Vision 980 work to reimagine the I-980 corridor, this project will prototype an AI-informed tool that makes community data actionable for residents, planners, and advocates. Learn more in the project brief and Oaklandside’s recent article.We will also give updates to our current projects, introduce them to new attendees as necessary, network with others interested in civic tech, provide an opportunity to give back to the community, get experience for your resume or portfolio, and learn.
