It is estimated that 1/3 of all greenhouse gas emissions result from current agricultural practices. Understanding the resources that go into producing our meals can make us more aware of the relationship between food and climate change, and help us make better choices. Next Sunday, January 12th, at 3:00 the Orange County Global Warming Committee will show the beautiful and thought provoking documentary:
The Future of Farming,
The film will be followed by an open discussion about food, fossil fuels and careful living for a sustainable future with local activist and urban farmer Sherri Davison. Notes on the documentary: Wildlife film maker Rebecca Hosking investigated how to transform her family's farm in Devon after realizing how dependent all food production in the UK is on abundant cheap fossil fuel, particularly oil. Exploring ways of farming without using fossil fuel with the help of pioneering farmers and growers, Rebecca learns that it is actually nature that holds the key to farming in a low-energy future.
Sherri Davison was a community educator for the County of Los Angeles’ Smart Gardening program specializing in composting and sustainable gardening practices. She does urban farming & raises her own poultry at her home in Fullerton. Sherri organizes community environmental programs and co-leads a Citizens Climate Lobby group in Brea. Professionally she coaches business owners committed to humane & sustainable business practices.
