What we’re about

While some events are listed here on Meetup, most of our 300+ trips per year can only be found on our Trip Calendar.

The Colorado Mountain Club (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit) is the Rocky Mountain community for mountaincraft education, adventure, and conservation. We exist to bring people together and share our love of the mountains—and community. From the uninitiated to the expert, there is a place for everyone here.

The Boulder Group of the CMC seeks to foster community, connect with the outdoors and give back to nature.

Situated in close proximity to Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks, including Chautauqua and the iconic Flatirons, Brainard Lake Recreation Area, Indian Peaks Wilderness, Arapahoe and Roosevelt National Forests and Rocky Mountain National Park, the Boulder Group offers volunteer-led trips, classes, social events and conservation activities from sunrise to moonlight with mindful pauses in between.

The Boulder Group also maintains & operates two backcountry cabins, in accordance with the terms of a Special Use Permit issued by the US Forest Service.  More information and cabin reservations are available here.

To find out more about the CMC Boulder Group, be sure to visit our website.

There are no strangers in the mountains, only friends you haven't met! To join the CMC, go to the state website at http://www.cmc.org and click on "Join".

Welcome to Rise & Grind, the CMC Boulder Group’s morning hiking and coffee series. Our objective is to start our day off right with some exercise, good company and a little mindfulness. In addition to the hike itself, we’ll pause on the summit for a moment of silent reflection and set our intentions for the day. Afterward there will be an optional stop for coffee, symbolizing a fresh start and the energy needed to conquer the day.

We hike every Wednesday (moderate) and Friday (challenging) morning. For more trip listings, click HERE.

This morning's Rise & Grind will hike the Mesa Trail via NCAR. The route will ascend approximately 1,066 feet over 4.4 miles round trip. The trip should take between two and three hours.

In order to participate you MUST register for this event on CMC.org. Details will be emailed to registered participants:

Details and directions will be emailed to registered participants.

Please note, while this will be a easy/moderate hike, it is not designed to be a beginner trip. This will be a before-work hike for some participants, so it’s important that we maintain our pace and finish promptly so folks can get to work on time. Please know your own abilities and be considerate of the rest of the group when you sign up.

This hike focuses on the GRIND in Rise & Grind. This will be a fast-paced, challenging hike without rest stops and is not appropriate for beginner hikers. You should be comfortable hiking at a fast (2.5mph/24 min/mile) pace and climbing more than 1,000 feet in under one mile at a strong (2.0 mph or 30 min/mile) pace without significant breaks. This will be a before-work hike for some participants, so it’s important that we maintain our pace and finish promptly so folks can get to work on time. Please know your own abilities and be considerate of the rest of the group; if you’re unsure that you’ll be able to meet the trip objectives (including distance, elevation gain and pace), please self select out of this hike and join us on a Wednesday instead.
