About us
A Basic Income (also called universal basic income (UBI), unconditional basic income, basic income guarantee), is a liveable wage provided to all citizens unconditionally. It's a complex issue that is discussed more fully on our website: https://basicincomeaustralia.com/
This group will have three main objectives:
1. Discuss and refine the concept - good ideas aren't born out of thin air, they have to be critiqued and analysed from every angle.
2. Publicise the idea and expand the public discussion - through targeted marketing campaigns and creating educational tools.
3. Campaign politically - confirming where politicians stand, promoting candidates who support it and pushing our own candidates as a last resort.

For our second 2026 book club, we’ll be reading A Basic Income for Australia: A Fair Go for All by Brian Donaghy, a clear and practical exploration of what a UBI could actually look like in the Australian context.
This book focuses less on abstract theory and more on real policy design, political feasibility, and the choices involved in moving from idea to implementation. It’s especially useful for anyone interested in how UBI fits within Australia’s existing welfare system, labour market, and public debate.
We’ll dig into the trade-offs, the sticking points, and the big questions about how a basic income could work here, now. As always, no expertise required, just curiosity and a willingness to discuss.1 attendee

This event is for people who want to make a Basic Income a reality in Australia.
If we're going to make an Unconditional Livable Wage For All a reality in Australia then we're going to need to organise marketing campaigns, hold events, pressure politicians and more.
Connect with a national network of Basic Income advocates in this monthly meeting as we discuss and strategise tactics.
If you're feeling shy about coming along and voicing your opinions and strategic ideas, just remember that the movement can never grow if new people don't join in.
