Twitter Developer Communities are for everyone interested in working with Twitter's developer products and APIs. We organize events which aim to bring developers, Twitter engineers, and various partners together for technical talks and networking. #TapIntoTwitter

This is the first locally organized Twitter Developer Community Meetup, a joint meet-up with the Austin Data Meetup. We've got three terrific talks planned.

Speakers:

Jerod Moore, Kittr, Inc. @goKittr

Abstract - Creating the "Kittr for Twitter" platform with influencer and social media strategist Kelly Ann Collins (@itsKAC), integrating human-scored and NLP-classified content with predictive hashtag intelligence to push interactions to a new level.

Bio - Jerod Moore (@jollymonATX) has been developing software for new products since 2010. His background in creating solutions has led to interesting consulting for Texas A&M College of Science, IMACS, ADVANCE, RadiantRFID and to writing several open source plugins for WordPress. Currently, Jerod is the CTO for Kittr, using a combination of factors to score and create content with a #hashtag focused engine.

Jim Moffitt, Twitter

Abstract - The Twitter data firehose delivers hundreds of millions of Tweets every day. This data flood comes with many ‘big data’ challenges in terms of both data volumes and velocities. This presentation will focus on tools that help you find your data ‘signal’ of interest, and will include several demos that focus on using Twitter for flood early-warning systems. These demos will highlight the real-time, public broadcast nature of Twitter, examples of real-time firehose filtering, as well as recent Internet of Things (IoT) Twitter integrations.

Bio - Jim Moffitt (@snowman) is a Developer Advocate at Twitter, where he helps developers and clients build innovative things on the Twitter platform. Using code examples, documentation, blog posts, presentations, and consulting, Jim enjoys his mission of helping clients tell their own Twitter data stories. Before Twitter, Jim developed software for real-time weather monitoring and early-warning systems.

USGS Texas Water Dashboard: Leveraging Innovative Web Mapping Solutions and Twitter to Distribute Real-time Water Information for the State of Texas

Abstract -- In July 2015, the USGS-Texas Water Science Center (https://tx.usgs.gov) (TXWSC) began development of a new mapping application focused on the delivery of real-time water data in Texas. This new system, named the Texas Water Dashboard (https://txpub.usgs.gov/txwaterdashboard/), is composed of two related parts focused on easier access to water data from USGS National Water Information System (NWIS). The dynamic web mapping application that presents USGS real-time stream, lake, reservoir, precipitation, and groundwater well data from over 750 observation stations in Texas in context with current weather and hazard conditions. Additionally, the TXWSC in partnership with Twitter developed two autonomous data feeds to deliver water level and precipitation data (@usgs_texasflood (https://twitter.com/usgs_texasflood), usgs_texasrain (https://twitter.com/usgs_texasrain)) for sites experiencing potentially hazardous conditions, This first-generation tool from Texas is being considered for local/regional applications and eventually national adoption by the USGS.

Bio(s) -- Daniel Pearson (@danielkpearson (https://twitter.com/danielkpearson)) has been with the USGS-TXWSC since 2002. He currently serves as the Data and Spatial Studies Section Chief in Austin, TX. He provides technical expertise to TXWSC cooperators and staff, and oversees a team of hydrologists, geographers and IT specialists whose function is to produce innovative geospatial solutions in the water science arena. Justin Robertson (@hackthecells (https://twitter.com/hackthecells)) has been with the USGS-TXWSC since 2011. He lends his skills with .NET web application development and SQL database design to the Data and Spatial Studies Section in Austin, TX. He also serves as the development lead for the USGS autonomous Twitter feeds and Current Water Information System.
